Alphabodies™ may also display the following beneficial properties:
- Because of their small size, Alphabodies™ have a superior tissue penetration potential as compared to larger protein therapeutics, such as conventional antibodies.
- Their small size (and low molecular weight) allows Alphabodies™ to be formulated in much smaller volumes (10-15x lower than for an antibody); which is a significant advantage for certain modes of administration, including subcutaneous injection.
- In vivo half-life of Alphabodies™ can be easily modulated, a.o. by standard techniques such as PEGylation, or through a proprietary method developed by Complix.
- Alphabodies™ can be effectively produced by E. coli fermentation, which means that large scale manufacturing should be straightforward and cost-effective.
Throughout its ongoing research programs Complix has established preclinical proof-of-concept for many of the key properties of Alphabodies™. Complix is currently focusing its therapeutic development programs on selected targets in auto-immunity and infectious diseases, in which cases it is fully exploiting the competitive advantages of Alphabodies™. |
